Spiritual Mummies! by Bernard Smalls

What To do When Everything Seems to Be Going Wrong, Part 2

17 Therefore do not be vague and thoughtless and foolish, but understanding and firmly grasping what the will of the Lord is.
Ephesians 5: 17 Amplified Bible

Why are we experiencing such a huge financial crisis in our nation? I think it is just a manifestation of the true heart condition of the people of America, including the Church. It would seem like with all of the Churches in our nation we would humble ourselves and pray and see healing in our land (2 Chronicles 7: 14). The condition of the nation is often a reflection of the Church in that nation.

Today I want to show you what I think has gone wrong.
First of all, many in our generation have lost their positive, spiritual motivation to live in the true will of God. They have become what I call spiritual mummies. Mummies lack motivation! They are dead, no matter how you dress them up.
They are all dressed up with no where to go!

Thesaurus dictionary defines a mummy as; the body of a person or animal that has been embalmed and wrapped in cloth, especially as was the custom in ancient Egypt. It also means a naturally preserved body.

MUMMIES ARE DEAD!
Many have lost their dream of the extraordinary life God has planned for them and sold their souls to the company store (corporate America). The problem is that in most cases the company store has or is going BROKE! The economic crisis has hit and the bottom has fallen out of most industries. The cheese was moved.

When things go wrong it is often God knocking at the door of your heart to get into His will and plan for your life. It is time for you to firmly grasp the will of God and get motivated to serve. It is time to fulfill your purpose in life. You were not created to be a mummy! It's time to get moving in the right direction. Here is wisdom;

"Many times things go wrong because you are going in the wrong direction."

Let me illustrate; I never heard God's voice about starting the Cyber-Church ministry until the economy went bad (as spiritual as I am, LOL). I was riding the wave of material and financial success! As successful as I was, I was going in the wrong direction. I was living in a three quarter million dollar house on an prestigious Arnold Palmer golf course, three miles from the Ocean. I would drive to the beach whenever I felt like it and tiptoe through the sand barefoot. When the money is flowing it is easy to say God is blessing what I am doing, so it must be good. If that is true, that would mean that the Mafia is blessed too, because the money is flowing. It took the crisis to get my attention and start moving in the right direction.

We need Jesus-like believers to stand and live God's dream in the earth. This nation needs a spiritual revolution. Washington DC won't be able to save us from this economic crisis! We need a spiritual revolution in this nation because materialism has put this great nation into deep debt! Please click on the link below:

MUMMY CHURCHES
Our churches are materialistic! They seem to be trying to be clones of other successful churches instead of being unique and following the will of God. It seems like pastors everywhere are trying to emulate others so the whole place is mummified.
Emulation is actually a work of the flesh. It is a word we don't use a lot today.

19 Now the works of the flesh are manifest, which are these; Adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lasciviousness, 20 Idolatry, witchcraft, hatred, variance, emulations, wrath, strife, seditions, heresies, 21 Envyings, murders, drunkenness, revellings, and such like: of the which I tell you before, as I have also told you in time past, that they which do such things shall not inherit the kingdom of God. Galatians 5: 19-21

Here is the Greek definition of emulation
1) excitement of mind, ardour, fervour of spirit
a) zeal, ardour in embracing, pursuing, defending anything
1) zeal in behalf of, for a person or thing
2) the fierceness of indignation, punitive zeal
b) an envious and contentious rivalry, jealousy

I have attended churches from Georgia to California and thought; haven't I been in this Church before? Same Christian/rock music, same pretty (or handsome) faces on the platform, same "no dress code - dress code." Same seeker sensitive pre-packaged, micro-waved messages. No anointing! Money, money, money, money.... Many have learned to act like money is not important, but behind the scenes it is the driving motivation.
Churches today often measure success by the size of the budgets and offerings. God is not impressed with the money or property or buildings we amass. The sad reality is that many churches have become "spiritual corporate America." We need a real spiritual revolution in this nation! We must be freed from greed. The fundamental problem is selfishness! The American Church in general is sadly lacking in TRUE SPIRITUALITY because of PRAYERLESSNESS. We think because we have a nice building and large offerings we are in the will of God. Did you know that early church (in the book of Acts) did not even own church buildings? They had a relationship with God that produced miracles and surpassed fancy buildings and technology.
It's all up to you to know God intimately!

26-27 Anyone who sets himself up as "religious" by talking a good game is self-deceived. This kind of religion is hot air and only hot air. Real religion, the kind that passes muster before God the Father, is this: Reach out to the homeless and loveless in their plight, and guard against corruption from the godless world.

James 1: 26-27 The Message
